If you've been following my content for any length of time, you've probably heard me talk about the importance of client relationships. While booking your first voice over job is exciting, building long-term relationships with clients is what creates a stable, profitable voice acting business.
The reality is that not every client will become a long-term customer. Some projects are simply one-and-done. But every once in a while, one client can completely transform your business—and it often starts with something as simple as a single email.

One of my favorite examples comes from a client I've worked with for nearly a decade.
They produce interactive e-learning training for skilled trades including:

Construction training
Unlike traditional online courses, their programs are highly interactive. Instead of simply watching videos and answering quiz questions, students work through realistic 3D simulations while my voice guides them through each step of the process.

Before diving into direct email marketing, make sure you have the right pieces in place.
You'll want:
A professionally produced voice over demo
A professional website
Broadcast-quality audio
Confidence in your performance skills
Without those essentials, your marketing efforts won't produce the results you're hoping for.
If you're still getting started, freelance platforms like Fiverr or Upwork can be excellent places to gain experience while you're building those foundational pieces.
Once you have a professional demo and website, direct email marketing becomes one of the most effective ways to grow your business.
Think Long-Term, Not Transactionally
One mistake many new voice actors make is treating every project as an isolated job.
Instead, think of every client as the beginning of a relationship.
Ask yourself:
How can I make this client's life easier?
How can I deliver an exceptional experience?
How can I become their first choice next time?
That mindset shift can dramatically increase your repeat business.
